Slicing an Onion

Do you like cheesesteak with fried onions? Classic French onion tart? Sausage and peppers? If you’ve answered “yes” to any of these, you need to learn how to thinly slice onions, although perhaps not as often as its cousin, Chopping an Onion.  You will need a sharp chef’s knife, preferably 8-inches.

Here’s how:

1. Slice an onion in half, discarding the two ends.

2. Holding an onion half firmly in your non-slicing hand, thinly slice the onion crosswise.

3. There you have it! Thinly sliced onions.
